| COMMUNITY HEALTH ATLAS
The Community Health Atlas is a development of the previously released community database. This new development presents up-to-date public health data and is designed to provide an enhanced user experience so users can more easily explore the statistical significance of the data and implications. In addition, partner organisations in Doncaster have collaborated to make available an interactive GIS tool, DSmart, and this resource could help those that wish to further explore public health determinants in Doncaster.
Data
Cancer incidence rates, death rates, general health, hospital admission rates and socio-economic indicators are available for viewing using the Community Health Atlas. The data is available for several years allowing time trend analysis. The atlas will be updated as new data becomes available.
Atlases
There are several options for viewing data.
Single map - This allows the user to look at a time series of the data for each indicator.
Double map - This allows the user to look at the relationship between two different indicators or time periods.
Area profile - This is a spine chart display showing all of the indicators on one page and a comparison to the base Doncaster value. It also allows comparison between two chosen areas.
Funnel plot - This is a visual representation of the significance of the data in relation to the Doncaster average.
A user guide for this atlas will be available shortly.
To view data you will need to have Adobe SVG Viewer installed on your PC. This can be downloaded from the Adobe website. In some circumstances administrator rights will be required to successfully install the viewer. The atlas applications should to be used with broadband connections. If an application appears slow to respond to user requests, it may be worth returning to the application at a time when there is less congestion online. Also, when linking to the atlases you will need to give some time to allow the pages to form.
The interactive data mapping and visualisation tool we have used to produce the Community Health Atlas is called InstantAtlas™.
