Finningley Airport Health Impact
Assessment
The planning application to develop the former RAF
airbase at Finningley into a commercial airport was submitted
to Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council in November 1999. The
application proposes to cater for the movement of over 2 million
passengers a year by 2014 and 62,000 tonnes of freight. Environmental,
economic and transport impact assessments were conducted as part
of the application. However, it was stipulated that a health impact
assessment be conducted before the application is considered (although
this was not a statutory requirement). The health impact assessment
was initiated in May 2000 by Doncaster Health Authority, in partnership
with Health and Public Protection, Doncaster Metropolitan Borough
Council (jointly funded). Technical support was provided
by the MRC Institute for Environment and Health, University of
Leicester, and the Public Health GIS Unit, University of Sheffield
School Of Health And Related Research. This document is the final
report which describes the key potential health impacts of the
airport development. The annexes contain the technical information
used to compile the report:
- Policy appraisal of the planning application documents
- Profiling of the local communities affected by the airport
development
- Results from stakeholder and key informant interviews
- Evidence from the literature on the likelihood of health
impacts.

note: because of the large file size, the report has been
split into 5 documents. However each document is still
quite large. All of the following downloads are Microsoft
Word documents.
